Everyone knows that fitness is good for you. But at Mountain View CrossFit, we make it fun; and we’ll help you find a routine that works for your lifestyle and personal goals. Whether you’re new or a seasoned veteran, we’ve got what you need to stay healthy and feeling great. We were founded as a community where anyone can join in on the fitness fun. Mountain View CrossFit Co-Founder and Coach Doug

Co-Founder and Coach

Doug 

Doug has lived in Alberta for his entire life and Cochrane since 1997.  He discovered CrossFit during the pandemic when training outside was offered by the previous CrossFit gym. From that point, he was hooked.

Doug is a firm believer in fitness for life and a strong advocate to continue to move no matter what your fitness level, experience, age or skill.  He loves the constantly varied CrossFit methodology and how that applies to everyone!  He is always helping athletes refine their skills, remain excited about CrossFit and most importantly enjoy the community.​

In 2023 when the opportunity presented itself to bring CrossFit back to Cochrane, Doug together with Jill and Steve, took full advantage of that and MVCF is the result!

Favourite CF Movement:  Barbell snatch and anything other than running 

Fun Fact:  Loves to build adult Lego and has a rather extensive collection

Co-Founder

STEVE

Steve is a proud Cochrane local, returning home after pursuing his university education and launching his career. Together with his wife Jill, they’ve chosen Cochrane as the place to put down roots and raise their family.

A passionate entrepreneur, Steve has started multiple businesses over the years, but opening a CrossFit gym wasn’t always in the plan. In fact, it took a pandemic to spark his interest. During COVID-19, when the previous CrossFit gym in Cochrane was holding outdoor workouts, Steve decided to give it a try. Leery as he could not imagine himself as a group workout type guy, what started as a one-time experiment turned into a game-changer. The workout itself was a humbling experience, but it was the sense of community that truly caught him off guard. The camaraderie, motivation, accountability, and fun of working out in a group left a lasting impression.

Favourite CF Movement: Burpees or Running

Fun Fact: Most think of hockey when they think of Steve and sports, but his true love was skateboarding growing up​​

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Mike

Coach

MIKE

Mike is a small-town boy from Saskatchewan that loves teaching, the outdoors and fitness. He found Crossfit almost 10 years ago in Regina and has been an active Crossfit athlete and coach since.

He is a full-time high school math teacher who loves taking his passion of seeing people develop to the gym. Improving people’s qualities of life through fitness, mobility, and a positive mindset are some of Mike’s favorite aspects of coaching.

You can be sure that you will leave one of his classes with a smile on your face after some great “dad jokes” and a killer workout. He is looking forward to seeing you in the gym!

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Rachel

RACHEL

Rachel started CrossFit in 2021. Obtaining her CF LV-1 Trainer in 2022, when she moved to Cochrane. Passionate about health, fitness and education, coaching was an exciting new adventure. She will be the first to say that you don’t need to be “fit enough” to come in and try CrossFit. With zero athletic background or sports experience when she walked into her first box, she found CrossFit communities are incredibly welcoming and the workouts are infinitely scalable—that is we scale to meet you where you are. Rachel is STOKED 🤟🏻 that CrossFit is back in Cochrane and she looks forward to welcoming you into Mountain View, and supporting you in whatever your fitness goals are!

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Brandon

BRANDON

Brandon is very excited to be a part of this awesome community at MVCF! He has been coaching movement for the last 18 years to people of all ages, from 2 years old to 80 years old and has worked with many different clients over the years. He has been Coaching CrossFit Athletes since 2012 and competed at a fairly high level until about 2018 when he shifted focus to his family and career. When he is not personal training or coaching CrossFit classes at MVCF, you will likely find him in the mountains with his wife Karyn and pups Ahsoka and Trooper, on a golf course, or in a fire hall as he is a career firefighter. We are very thankful to have Brandon as a part of the community and he looks forward to throwing down with everyone in a class anytime!

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Curtis

Coach

CURTIS

Curtis  started his fitness journey when he was young, playing hockey, baseball, and karate. He started weight training and rock climbing training in high school and pursued outdoor pursuits at Mount Royal College where he became a competitive rock climber and climbing instructor. He was program manager for Lindsay Park sports center and the YMCA. After he quit competing in rock climbing, he moved towards  personal training and boxing. When he was boxing, he was introduced to CrossFit as a cross-training tool and fell in love with the intensity and movements

 

Favourite CF Movement: his favourite WOD has always been Fran and his favourite movement is the Thruster

Fun Fact: He is married and has two boys that he adores. He enjoys studying sociology and philosophy and has been riding and has had a passion for motorcycles since he was a teenager

Mountain View CrossFit Co-Founder and Coach Jill

Jill 

Originally from the East Coast, Jill has had a passion for movement for as long as she can remember. Growing up with 2 older brothers, and parents who were always on the move, she really had no choice!  

She’s a former university hockey and fastpitch athlete who has taught high school PE for the past 15 years. Jill holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, a Bachelor of Education, and is a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant. This background, along with her CF L1 certification, enables her to take a well-rounded approach to health, focusing on how training, nutrition, and mindset work together to create lasting results.

Whether you’re refining your technique, pushing for a new PR, or looking for tips on optimizing your nutrition, she’s here to guide and inspire you every step of the way.

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Megan

MEGAN

Megan grew up in Northern Alberta and decided to move out this way in 2018 because the area was more suited to her active lifestyle. She has worked in the fitness industry for several years and has coached various types of physical activity. Along with having her Exercise Science diploma and numerous other certifications, she recently decided to get her CF L1. After doing CrossFit off and on for a couple of years, she has decided not only to get back into it herself, but to coach others along the way. She is excited to share her knowledge with all the members

Fun Fact: CrossFit is her 'committed challenge' she does the first thing in the morning that sets her up for success everyday

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Natalie

NATALIE

Natalie started CrossFit in 2015 and instantly fell in love. Natalie is a CrossFit Level 2 trainer ,with three years of coaching experience, and a mom of three. Through pregnancy, Natalie continues to lead by example, demonstrating that CrossFit is infinitely scalable and that staying active is possible in every stage of life. Her passion for fitness and desire to help others sparked her love for coaching. She has her CrossFit Weightlifting, CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Pregnancy & Postpartum and Precision Nutrition certifications. When she’s not in the gym, she’s probably chasing her toddlers, golden doodles, or both. We are so excited to have Natalie as a part of our team at MVCF!

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Mo

MO 

Mo is a Filmmaker and a CrossFitter. He started doing CrossFit years ago in Egypt, where he was born and raised. He loves exploring different cultures and travelling the world! His fitness philosophy is to train smarter, not harder and moving efficiently and safely is his goal for all his athletes. He says he doesn’t care how much you lift, but more importantly how you lift. We are so excited to have Mo as a part of the team and he is equally as excited to be a part of our community here in Cochrane. 

 

Favourite CF Movement: Snatch
Fun Fact: CrossFit keeps him disciplined, but pizza turns him into an elite competitor! Faster than you'd ever expect!

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Jovana

JOVANA

Jovana found CrossFit in 2014 and completed her CF L1 in 2017. 

For Jovana, the absolutely best thing about coaching is trying to create a space in class where people can try new things, learn about themselves and in the process develop a long lasting passion for movement & fitness. The beauty of CrossFIt is that there is endless opportunity for modifications and substitutions so that you can keep moving, no matter where you are in life & throughout all of life's inevitable changes.  

Jovana believes that fitnessing should be a good time! Celebrating overcoming a tough workout or simply being able to make it to the gym that day, with new-found friends that cheer you on, really is magic. 

Favourite CF Movement: The kip! So fundamental to a number of movements as well as body awareness and control

Fun Fact: Before moving to Canada, Jovana used to live in the UK & in Japan

Mountain View CrossFit Coach Nina

Coach

NINA

Nina is excited to be back in the CrossFit community after a short break to get resettled in Cochrane where her CrossFit journey began!
She has been doing CrossFit since 2016 and achieved her CF-L1 in 2022. Her true passion is teaching and after completing a physical & health education degree and a teaching degree, she decided the school system wasn’t for her. Finding CrossFit and eventually getting into coaching has made her childhood phys-ed-teacher-dream come true!
When she is not at the gym, she is spending time with her spouse and her 4-year old son (who will both frequent the gym) or riding horses in the mountains.
